THE TWIN TEXAN OFFENSIVE GUIDE

Guide Cover

INTRODUCTION:

The Twin Texan Offensive Guide focuses on a very low risk, high reward, 12 personnel scheme. For those that don’t know, this means two tight ends, and one runningback. This style of play will allow you to control the pace of the game by offering a solid run game, and having a ton of underneath routes that you can throw without losing the ability to go deep.

Below you will find each formation with its own section laid out within tabs. When possible we will also go over an advanced strategy that may require more adjustments, a complete understanding of the formation, or quicker fingers to complete the play. Make sure to learn the entire body of content to ensure that your offense is running on all cylinders.

So lets jump into it, and start learning The Twin Texan Offense. Thanks for checking out the guide and be sure to tweet us @maddenturf or review us on http://facebook.com/maddenturf after you have gone through the guide to let us know your thoughts!

Singleback Wing Slot

12 Personnel Scheme

In this section we will talk about the main formation in this scheme, Singleback Wing slot. This formation gives us two receivers stacked to the left, and two tight ends stacked to the right. This personnel all but takes away any defense with more defensive backs than a Nickel set, but offers enough passing threats to make it tough for someone to really load up the box with bigger defenses.

Watch the intro below, and then move into the main setups. Once you have a good grasp on how each of the main setups work, head to the quick tabs and learn some of the routes and concepts that can use as a quick game to pick up yards when you are behind the sticks on first down.

BENEFITS OF 12 PERSONNEL:

  • Forces Your Opponent To Matchup, Keeping Them Out Of Dime Sets
  • Keeps A Balanced Dual Threat Of Run Or Pass
  • Great For Players With Running Vision, Usually One Cut From a Big Gain

WEAKNESSES OF 12 PERSONNEL:

  • Shows Obvious Strong Side For Running
  • Requires Hybrid TE’s That Can Block But Also Have Speed
  • Makes Blocking Weak Side Pressure Somewhat Difficult
In this group of tabs we will go over the basic fundamentals of the offense. It is VERY important that you understand all of these setups at minimum before taking the offense into a game. These setups are the bread and butter of the system. Once you have these setups committed to memory you have the basics you can move on to the “Quicks”. In this group we will cover;

  • Jet 6 Drive Wheel
  • PA FL Drive
  • PA Post Shot
  • PA Boot LT
  • Cover 2/4 1 Play TD
  • Run Game

Simply click the corresponding tab to learn a particular setup. We will have the written setup in there, but it is VERY important to watch the videos as well.

This is a very popular concept from a few different formations this year because everyone loves posts and wheels. We will be removing the wheel however and using motion to create more of a flood concept with a backside post.

Setup:

  • Streak or Drag the Left Slot WR (Watch Video)
  • Motion the Inside TE to the Left

Video:

This setup is a bit liquid in the sense that it changes based on ball position. In the middle or right side of the field this play gives us bench on one side, and curl flat on the other, with a post over the deep middle. On the left side of the field however we will be making a sail concept.

Setup:

  • Place the RB on a Swing to Wide Side (Left if Middle of Field)
  • Place Outside TE on Streak (Left Hash Only)

Video:

This setup is designed to give us a couple solid deep reads, while still providing two simple check downs if needed. This setup is highly effective if you have a user defender that plays in the middle of the field because he will be forced to either go back and give up a 7-10 yard in route, or stay shallow and possibly give up a big play.

Setup:

  • Place the Left Outside WR on an In Route
  • Place the RB on a Delay (Check and Release)

Video:

This setup creates a flood to the left side of the field using a drive concept from the two TE’s. In a game that has recently patched corner routes, this particular corner tends to get open quite a bit because we have the streak going over it to drive off any deep third in the area. If your opponent plays back to defend that corner, you will have both TE’s running under it, and the RB as an available check down.

Setup:

  • Drag the Right Outside TE
  • Place the RB on a Delay (Check and Release)

Video:

Who doesn’t like one play touchdowns? Are we right? Well here you go. This setup will be able to bomb Cover 2 or Cover 4 for a one play touchdown. Keep in mind however that you will need time, so if they are blitzing heavy you may not be able to get it off.

Setup:

  • Place the Left Slot WR on an In Route
  • Place the RB on a Delay (Check and Release)

Video:

This formation offers some really solid running plays that can attack almost every area of the field. Below we will go over some of the best running plays in the set.

Setup:

  • None- See Video

Video:

In this group of tabs we will go over some of the plays that are a bit faster to snap because they have less adjustments and can be great baby dots to attack your opponent or make up yards on a bad previous down. In this section we will go over;

  • Inside Cross
  • Y Go Slot Cross
  • Y Go Slot Mtn

Simply click the corresponding tab to learn a particular setup. We will have the written setup in there, but it is VERY important to watch the videos as well.

This is a setup that doesnt require any setup what so ever, and still presents your opponent with a very difficult play to deal with due to the crossing drags and post over the top. You can choose to streak someone optionally, but it is not required.

Setup:

  • Streak Inside Player of Your Choice (Optional, See Video)

Video:

This is the first setup for this play, and this play is in our audibles. This setup gives us routes going over the middle with the seam and crossing route, and then we get the comeback/flat combo on the left side if you don’t like the middle.

Setup:

  • Place the Left Outside WR on a Comeback

Video:

This setup is also from Y Go Slot Cross, but this time we are going to motion the crossing route across the field and turn it into the speed out from previous Madden games. This route is very difficult to handle for almost any coverage except a base aligned cover 2.

Setup:

  • Motion the Left Slot to the Right
  • See Video For Snap Timing

Pistol Tight Slots

Mini Screens Galore

The Pistol Tight Slots Formation is basically the same as Gun Tight Slots, but with a much more healthy run game, and one little difference that makes it far more interesting. From this formation we can run the ball effectively, and throw short ball control style routes with ease. There is also a setup to bomb cover 3 in here for those that want the ability to go deep from time to time as well.

Watch the intro below discussing the best part of the formation and what drew us to it to begin with.

BENEFITS OF PISTOL TIGHT SLOTS:

  • The TE Hot Routes Make For Interesting Combinations
  • Has a much more detailed run game than Gun Tight Slots

WEAKNESSES OF PISTOL TIGHT SLOTS:

  • The TE Motion Gives a Tell When you Are Running or Passing
  • Passing Plays Are Limited In The Formation

In this group of tabs we will go over setups for the Pistol Tight Slots Formation as well as the run game. We will give you the runs, makeshift screens, and the deep bomb for Cover 3. Once you are done here you can move on to the other 11 personnel setups from Trips TE Offset below.

  • Run Game
  • Mesh
  • Cross Screen
  • Slip Screen
  • PA Post Shot (Cover 3 Bomb)

Simply click the corresponding tab to learn a particular setup. We will have the written setup in there, but it is VERY important to watch the videos as well.

The run game can be very powerful when used correctly from this formation. The HB Zone is a dominant run play that can go in either direction, and the Counter Y offers a potential home run. The audible run, although the worst in the group, can be used to keep our opponent from selling out the swings and pass plays.

RUNS COVERED:

  • HB Zone
  • Counter Y
  • Inside Zone Split

This setup is hash dependent, you want to run this with the TE lined up on the wide side of the field. This setup will give us a dominant high low read on the TE side, with a trailing drag route to check down to if your opponent adjusts to the outsides.

Setup:

  • Swing TE To Wide Side
  • Block RB or Swing Opposite Side

Video:

This setup can be made from any play, for the purposes of the video and keeping it simple we will be doing this one from mesh as well however. Basically we are going to be creating a cross screen to our TE and getting the RB to block for him up the field.

Setup:

  • Place TE on a Swing to Inside
  • Place RB on a Wheel and Motion to the Side the TE is Running To

Video:

This is just your basic HB Slip Screen, normally we wouldn’t even really include these in the guides, but we felt it was important to remind you that it is in the formation, and screens are actually pretty good this year.

Setup:

  • None

Video:

This setup will go over how to set the play up to beat Cover 3 deep. It can be a bit lengthy to setup, so be aware you will need a good portion of the play clock remaining.

Setup:

  • Streak the Left Inside WR
  • Place the Right Outside WR on a Smart Routed Out Route
  • Adjust the TE as You See Fit

Other 11 Personnel

Depth For Your Offense

In this group of tabs we will go over setups for the Trips TE Offset Formation as well as the run game. This formation is home to one of the very best passing plays in the game along with a great inside zone, and a beautiful simple passing concept.

  • X Under
  • Curl Combo
  • TE In
  • Run Game

Simply click the corresponding tab to learn a particular setup. We will have the written setup in there, but it is VERY important to watch the videos as well.

This is possibly the best passing play in the game. It is Levels Sail on steroids. Here you get the loveliness of levels with a gorgeous post flowing behind it should the user want to take away your shallow reads. This is great because you can make them pay quickly and without rolling out at all, unlike Levels Sail.

Setup:

  • Place Middle WR on Drag

Video:

This setup is one one of the most simple passing plays you can imagine, but it is highly effective. You will have a curl flat concept on the outside, and a slot streak attacking the seam.

SETUP:

  • Streak Inside WR
  • Block RB (Optional-See Video)

VIDEO:

This setup is a bit older and we have been running this for a few Madden releases now, but TE In gives us a great over the middle clear-out concept. If for some reason the user manages to not bite and leave your slant open, look to hit the TE as he comes back across the field.

Setup:

  • Slant The Left Outside WR

Video:

The run game from this formation is fairly limited but what is available is very good. Watch the video below to get a good idea on what runs to call.

In this group of tabs we will go over setups for passing plays that do not use motion; setups without using motion offer us an advantage at quick snapping the ball, as well as the ability to flip a play quickly. We will be covering the following plays below without the use of motioning a wide receiver:

  • Run Game
  • Bench Switch
  • Deep Post
  • HB Wheel

Simply click the corresponding tab to learn a particular setup. We will have the written setup in there, but it is VERY important to watch the videos as well.

The run game from Tight Slots is fierce to say the least because you can come out in the toss, flip it to either side without your opponent knowing, or audible down to the dive should they leave the box light. This offers an array of flexibility. Please watch the video below to learn about the following runs;

  • HB Pitch
  • HB Dive

This simple play requires no setup at all and can stress the outside of the field on both sides of your opponent’s defense. This also makes it impossible to be user defended. The only way they will defend both sides effectively would be to run a Cover 3 Mable and user the other side. Enjoy the video!

Setup:

  • Curl Route RB (Optional)

Video:

This is one of the more popular passing plays from the formations. This play looks to get your post route on the left open over the deep middle of the field and has some great underneath and flat check downs as well. We were stressing the outside of the field with Bench Switch and this play focuses more on attacking the middle.

Setup:

  • Streak Left Inside WR

Video:

This play is very similar to Deep Post, except the corner and post are on the same side, creating a fork concept. The post route on this play is a bit faster to develop as well which is a nice change up.

Setup:

  • Streak Right Outside WR

Video:

This is really just included as a goal line option to be mixed with HB Pitch and HB Dive. This was brought to our attention by Shugz recently and has been used to get those tough yards near the end zone.

Setup:

  • No Pre Snap Adjustments (Watch Video For Post Snap Instructions)

Video:

In this group of tabs we will go over setups for passing plays that motion the right outside wide receiver to the left (creating a bunch look). This helps procure extra blockers on the toss, doesn’t hurt our dive any, and makes for one hell of a setup from HB Wheel. We will be covering the following plays below with the use of motioning the inside wide receiver;

  • Run Gm
  • HB Wheel

Simply click the corresponding tab to learn a particular setup. We will have the written setup in there, but it is VERY important to watch the videos as well.

This setup is used to place extra blockers for the HB Pitch. It won’t hurt your ability to run Dive either, so feel free to use the motion from time to time when running dive just to keep your opponent honest. The following runs are included in the video;

Runs Included:

  • HB Pitch
  • HB Dive

Video:

This setup creates a bunch on one side of the formation and gives us a nice flat/corner combo to go along with the post/cross combo over the middle. This setup can be incredibly effective, but only if you have set up the run game with it. The ideal scenario is that your opponent tries to user the toss, leaving the middle wide open to complete the post. Check the video out;

Setup:

  • Place outside right WR on a flat route
  • Motion the right outside WR to left

Video:

In this group of tabs we will go over setups for the Trips TE Flex. This scheme was also posted on our Youtube channel, but we wanted to include here for those who do not subscribe to us.
